Brief Description Of Coral

The organisms known as Coral can be found in numerous warm water locations such as the depths of the Japan seas, Australia and Taiwan, the Red Sea, the Malayan Archipelago, the Mediterranean sea and many others. The Coral are a very popular tourist attraction and an interesting choice in jewelry, but the substances that they produce are of great interest to the pharmacist and the medication industry.

The calcium and minerals extracted from Corals are generally used in the pharmaceutical industry to create the calcium tablets. The benefit of making calcium tablets from various Coral species is that they usually also contain magnesium that helps the body retain the calcium more easily. People can use these tablets by as food additives, even though they do not specifically suffer from a calcium deficit. The calcium that is extracted from Corals ionizes the human body when ingested due to its specific molecular structure and makes it more active.

But not all Coral species contains calcium that can be extracted in order to be used in the pharmaceutical industry. There are two categories of Coral: the one that harvested from the ocean and the one harvested on the shoreline. Calcium that can be used for manufacturing tablets is available only in oceanic Coral. The most popular Coral extraction site is Ryukyu Island of Okinawa, in Japan. Due to the fact that calcium is only obtained from the oceanic Coral, the whole extraction and manufacturing process of the tablets is very expensive and that reflects in the high prices on the market.

One of the many benefits, that somewhat compensates the high prices is that the calcium extracted from Coral is entirely absorbed by the body, at a rate of almost 100 percent, compared to the normal calcium tablets where the absorption rate is less then 5 percent. The exploitation of the Coral however, needs to be done in such a matter as not to harm the entire reef, causing the death of this precious gift that the sea has given us.
