Cleaning A Cloudy Salt Water Fish Aquarium

Most people experience cloudy water in their salt water fish aquarium at some point, even when they try their hardest to prevent it. There are many different types of cloudy water, such as white water, that can appear in your aquarium. Fake coral reefs might not be harmed by cloudy water, but real corals definitely face danger when the water is dirty, and so do the salt water fish. Aquarium owners should act fast when the water in their tank beings to appear white and cloudy.

When a salt water fish aquarium appears to have turned white, it was probably caused by suspended sand particles in the water column. This is fairly common when people add new substrate to the tank, or in a new aquarium. Salt water fish probably don't like being in a white cloudy place, though, and it might make it very hard for them to acclimate to the new aquarium. Fake coral reefs and other decorations will also not look as good when the tank is white and cloudy.

Although the particles causing white water will eventually settle down, it is better to fix the problem quickly for the sake of the salt water fish. Aquarium owners can use mechanical filtration in their salt water fish aquarium, or even introduce copepod and amphipod eating animals to the aquarium. Fake coral reefs won't be harmed by these animals, and by reducing food supply for the amphipods and copepods, one can ensure that they will take care of the problem. After reducing or redirecting the water flow from power heads, the problem should be solved.
