This can be achieved by adding to the reef tank plenty of live rock and live corals which will help to create a stable environment that is very naturalistic for the fish. Once such an environment is created, coral reef fish will thrive with natural and frozen food sources provided by the reef as well as the owner/maintainer of the reef aquarium. Fish disease is also treated with proper knowledge on the part of the owner as well as good medicines including antibiotics, copper and formalin.
These are some of the reasons why saltwater fish tanks can be maintained now better than in the past. As time goes on, owners of saltwater fish tanks and reef tanks have access to better and better technology which allows them to recreate the reef environment.
