Emerging Live Coral Technologies

Coral reef fish aquariums are those that contain live coral and other sea animals that thrive in coral reefs. People used to be pretty ignorant when it came to coral reef, but much advancement has been made over the years to change that. With increased knowledge and developed maintenance practices, even casual hobbyists are able to keep live coral thriving like never before. There are many different types of coral reef aquariums; some that only contain live coral, and some that also contain fish. A coral reef fish aquarium is often actually referred to as a marine aquarium. Then there are aquariums that are meant specifically to house coral reefs alone, and to showcase the vibrant life they are known for.

People use traditional glass or acrylic style aquariums for live coral, which usually includes an internal overflow made of plastic or glass that has holes drilled into the bottom for a drain or standpipe and return line. The coral reef aquariums have water that pours over the overflow, down the standpipe and into a sump, which generally houses the filtration and heating equipment. The water then returns through a pump and more piping into the coral reef fish aquarium. Aquariums sometimes use external hang-on overflows, as well, which have U-tubes that feed water through a continuous siphon to the sump and back through a water pump. Thanks to this new technology, live coral is able to thrive in any hobbyist's home or office.
