Exotic salt water fish can be a beautiful and stimulating addition to any home, but if the tank is not clean and the fish are unhealthy they will be more of a detractor from the home. One of the most common causes of a dirty salt water fish aquarium is easily avoidable, though, as long as you know what you're doing. By simply avoiding overfeeding, the aquarium should only need to be cleaned every few months or so. When salt water aquarium fish or given more food than they need, however, you're going to have a mess on your hands. One of the easiest ways to avoid overfeeding salt water aquarium fish is to time your feedings. Exotic salt water fish rarely get the opportunity to sit down to a leisurely meal in nature, so they will naturally eat whatever is given them because they don't know if it will be their last meal.
This is why salt water fish aquarium owners should watch their fish eat and try to get a feel for how long and how much they actually eat, and then adjust the amount of food accordingly. Any leftover food will just cause a mess of algae or cloud the water, which is also true of excess waste. Another good trick for feeding exotic salt water fish is to feed them often, but only feed a very small amount each time. Overfeeding salt water aquarium fish has more to do with the amount of food given at a time, and not how many times they are fed. The size of the salt water fish aquarium also has nothing to do with how much food should be fed, so you should feed the fish only according to their size, not how much space they have.
