Meal Time For Saltwater Fish

Feeding is extremely important for saltwater fish, just as it is with any other living animal. One of the most important things that aquarium owners should remember at feeding time is that it's better to feed salt water fish more often, but to feed them very small amounts each time. Salt water fish species don't eat meals like humans do; they graze on little bites of food throughout the day. If they eat way too much at one time they can get sick, or the wasted food can cause problems in the tank.

Another thing that aquarium owners should remember is to feed the saltwater fish the same amount regardless of the size of their tank. Some people think salt water fish species will grow bigger when they live in larger habitats, and feeding them more will encourage that. While salt water fish may sometimes grow larger in a bigger tank, this does not mean they should be overfed. And when there are only a few fish in a large tank some people might think they can't find the food, but this is not necessarily the case either. They'll find it when they're hungry.

It's extremely important to use food that is appropriate for the specific salt water fish species, as well. Flake foods may be too small for large-mouthed saltwater fish, for example, or pellets may be too large for those with smaller mouths. Some foods may float while your salt water fish are searching the bottom, while others may sink to the bottom because your fish are actually surface feeders. Watching the saltwater fish eat will provide valuable information about the food they prefer, and what they won't eat.
