Preparing A Beginner Salt Water Fish Tank For Residents

So you've set up a beginner salt water fish tank with the pump, filter, salt mixture and correct water balance. Now all you need are a few salt water aquarium fish to bring that aquarium to life, but there are some steps you must take to ensure that their acclimation into this home environment will be successful. Reef aquariums must be tested, first of all, to ensure that they are ready for the fish. When setting up a salt water fish tank, you want to make any adjustments to get the tank to its optimal level before even purchasing the actual fish.

The ocean, where all species of salt water aquarium fish originated, is the largest body of water. Many of these varieties are appropriate and available for a beginner salt water fish tank. When you bring your fish home, make sure the keep the fish in the bag and place it in your beginner salt water fish tank. This will allow them to adjust to the temperature, and after a few hours you can add one fourth of a cup of tank water to the bag to let the fish adjust slowly, repeating this step four times. Setting up a salt water fish tank takes time and patience, so this can't be rushed.

Now you can put the salt water aquarium fish directly into the tank, or hold them in a quarantine tank for a few days or weeks until you are certain that they are healthy and able to thrive in the tank water. Many experts recommend this step when setting up a salt water fish tank for the first time, especially when you are adding an addition to a fairly new tank that already has a few fish in it. One sick fish could potentially ruin that beginner salt water fish tank, which could be very discouraging.
