Save Your Saltwater Fish In A Power Outage

When you own salt water fish, it is necessary to have a plan for when emergencies occur and the lives of the fish and any invertebrates in the tank are in danger. There are many things that could happen to threaten the lives of those saltwater fish and other aquatic pets housed in your aquarium. One of the most common salt water fish emergencies is a power failure, which could happen at any time without any warning, and if nothing is doe it could destroy the lives of all those fish you've invested in.

In order to protect the lives of your exotic salt water fish, you want to pay attention to all of the fish and invertebrates when an emergency happens. When an emergency such as a power failure occurs, the saltwater fish can undergo extreme stress, which can lead to deadly disease. There's really nothing than an exotic salt water fish owner can do to prevent a power failure. In fact, this is one of the most common aquarium emergencies than can happen. You can, however, react in a way that gives your fish the best odds possible of surviving.

When a saltwater fish owner experiences a power failure, the first thing they should do is try to aerate the water. Power outages are usually temporary, so if this step is taken care of the salt water fish and invertebrates should be fine as soon as the power comes back on. Another trick to protecting your exotic salt water fish during a power failure is to own a battery-powered air pump, which helps you maintain dissolved oxygen levels. You can also use a heat wrap to keep the heat going, avoid feeding the saltwater fish since the filters are not working, and keep a generator on hand just in case.

Since you've already invested hundred of dollars setting up and maintaining your aquarium, you don't want to take the chance of losing everything in just one power failure.
