When you have a beginner salt water fish tank, it's important to be very careful when stocking the aquarium with new fish. While it can be very exciting to get that tank and to start looking at salt water fish for sale, it's best to have the aquarium set up for two days before adding any fish to it. And in the beginning, it's good to find some cheap salt water fish that are very hardy. It can be a waste of money to start off with fish that are expensive and temperamental, since some species can be very difficult for beginners to work with. Once a beginner salt water fish tank has been set up for a couple of days to let the salt and trace elements dissolve and the temperature stabilize, those first few hardy and cheap salt water fish may be added.
After waiting four to six weeks and having success with the first batch of fish, then it's okay to start looking at more exotic and expensive salt water fish for sale. Aquarium owners should also wait up to a month for the bacteria culture to catch up to the waste the fish are producing, because if they aren't able to multiply at an acceptable rate the ammonia and or nitrite can weaken the sea creatures. It's also a good idea to find some of the smaller salt water fish for sale when stocking a beginner salt water fish tank. A 3" fish will contribute much less to the bio-load of the aquarium compared to a 9" fish. After having the aquarium for quite a while, though, hobbyists can stray away from the small and cheap salt water fish and begin trying some more exotic investments.
