The Angelfish family is a large group of colorful and elegant fish that vary in color and size. Anyone can enjoy looking at these salt water fish, from serious to the casual observer. Angel fish divided into two genuses; under the Genus Pomacanthus and Centropyge. While it is not recommended that you have two Angel fish in the same fish tank, it is possible to have two if they are different enough (for example, from each genus of Angel fish).
From the genus Pomacanthus, these Angel fish are the larger more robust species. While they are not as agile as other fish, they are small enough to get around quickly if need be. Adult Pomacanthus Angel fish usually have a long dorsal, anal fins and a rounded face. One distinguishing factor of Pomacanthus Angel fish is that they will change color quite dramatically from their juvenile stage to adult stage.
The Centropyge Genus is made up of smaller Angel fish that feed primarily on algae from the reef surface. While they are not as threatening as the other genus, they can move around more quickly and still pose a threat to other fish. This genus of Angel fish is more common throughout the world, and can be found in more locations. They are found mainly in the Indo-Pacific while only a couple of species, like the Pygmy and Flameback Angels, are found in the Atlantic and Caribbean.
